Room 10's Google Hangouts
The schools throughout Aotearoa are in lockdown. The Covid 19 virus has taken its toll on the lives of the people throughout the world. Millions of children throughout the world are away from their classrooms to stay safe and to help in stopping the spread of this killer virus.
The children from Room 10 at Glenbrae school are learning from the comfort and security of their homes through Google Hangouts with their whanau and the teacher. So far we have had 8 Hangouts with an average of 8 students participating in each of the hangouts.
During these hangouts, students presented their learning, asked questions if they had any doubts, commented on each other's blogs, commented on the blogs of their buddy classes from Pompallier Catholic School and Paroa School, commented on blogs of students from their school and edited their work with the help of their fellow participants.
All the participants worked with a lot of enthusiasm and felt that learning from home in their own space was really cool beacuse there was no one to disturb them. Some of them also felt that they missed the interactions they had in the classroom.
We were very fortunate to have Mrs. Tofa, the room 7 teacher, joined us in one of our hangouts. Mrs. Fiona Grant from our Manaiakalani cluster also joined us in one of our hangouts and gave us some very valuable tips on how to make Google Hangouts more interesting.
A very big thank you to these children for their contributions and attendance: Avania, AJ, Arman, Alyanna, Ana B, Chase, Danielle, Genevieve, Jasel, Jason, Joshua, Mote, Rose, Sione, Taijah, Undreanna, Victoria and Wuatai.
Room 10 will continue with these Google Hangouts throughout the school holidays to help those learners who want to continue with their learning from home. We will also continue learning from home through Google Hangouts when school reopens for classes on April 15th during the Lockdown period.
